Pieter-Dirk Uys

PDUPieter-Dirk Uys has been unemployed ever since the South African apartheid government banned his play Selle Ou Storie in 1975. He has since written and produced 20 plays, 36 satirical one-man shows and numerous writings reflecting his fascination with the human (and political) spirit enriched by humour. He was awarded South Africa’s prestigious Truth and Reconciliation Award in 2001. During the past ten years he has travelled through his country educating schoolchildren about HIV and Aids with his presentation ‘For Facts Sake’. The documentary film about this passion by Julian Shaw – ‘Darling – The Pieter-Dirk Uys Story’ – is on YouTube. He is best known for his notorious female creations, Evita Bezuidenhout and her sister Bambi Kellermann. He lives and writes in South Africa and occasionally travels the worlds to show off the results.
